About the Army Heritage Center Foundation

Our Mission

The parent organization, the Military Heritage Foundation, was incorporated in 1999 with the mission to bring the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center to life. Since that time, it has been the catalyst in forging the unique public-private partnership that has advanced the Center.

In October 2001, the Army officially designated the facility at Carlisle as the "United States Army Heritage and Education Center" and gave it the mission to serve as the Army's premier historical research facility with the purpose of providing educational outreach on Army history to the American People. As the primary partner in the effort, the Foundation has recognized the value in more closely associating its name with that of the physical facility. In November 2002, the Foundation adopted the "doing business as" name of the Army Heritage Center Foundation.

With the mission of helping the Army to bring the Center to life, the Foundation has several critical areas of responsibility:

  • To provide the mechanism for generating funds for construction of the Education Center and Army Heritage Museum portion of the USAHEC.
  • To create and sustain an endowment to fund educational programs, acquisitions and selected unprogrammed expenses of the USAHEC.
  • To manage business operations and selected visitor services.

Our Pledge

The Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) and leads a public-private partnership that, through donated support, will fund the construction of the public components of the complex -- the Visitor and Education Center and the Army Heritage Museum. Once the construction program is complete, the Foundation will transfer these facilities to the Army to operate and maintain as part of the Army Heritage and Education Center. The Foundation will then focus on providing "margin of excellence support" to meet the needs of education programs and other activities at the AHEC where federal funds are unavailable. The Foundation also manages an educational program, Voices of the Past Speak to the Future, which creates and distributes educational content for use by teachers and students throughout the United States. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has designated the Foundation as a provider of innovative educational programs and professional development programs for teachers and as an agency eligible for the Commonwealth's Educational Incentive Tax Credit Program.

The development of the Army Heritage and Education Center is a unique public-private supported by the United States Army, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, local governments, private citizens, corporations and foundations, and the Army Heritage Center Foundation. The Foundation encourages you to explore this site, learn more about the value of the Center, and to consider making a donation.
