Post secondary Programs
College-Level Internship Program
A multi-disciplinary intern program provides an opportunity for students to experience firsthand work in a major historical repository with an institutional focus on training students towards careers in history-related fields. Interns will research primary and secondary source materials found in the Military History Institute for use in the development of teaching tools for teachers in grades K-12, as they relate to American history. The Professor Russell F. Weigley Award
The James A. Barnes Club, a graduate student history association, honors Russell F. Weigley, a Temple University's History Department faculty member, who taught in the department from 1930 to 1966 and was considered among the elite of our nation's military historians. Since 1996 the Barnes Club hosts a conference drawing participants from across the nation and around the world. The graduate students submit proposals for individual papers and/or panel presentations on any topic, time period, or approach in history.
The Army Heritage Center Foundation and the James A. Barnes Club sponsor the Russell F. Weigley Award for Military History which is presented at the Barnes Club's annual conference in Philadelphia, PA. The award pays tribute to Professor Weigley, one of the world's foremost military historians.
This year’s conference was held on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Temple University’s Center City campus, 1515 Market Street in Philadelphia. The first place award was presented by John Castaldo, Temple University for his paper “Our Mohammedan Moros: American Perceptions of the Moro People during the Military Occupation of Southern Philippines, 1902-1913.” Mr. Clemis, also from Temple, achieved second place for “An Unprecedented Collaboration: Academic Participation in Counterinsurgency Doctrine during the Cold War and Today.”
