Teacher & Student Resources
Resources available to teachers and students include photos of artifacts or primary source archival materials from the Army's archive, the Military History Institute. In some cases the artifact or document is by itself while some have a short interpretation or historical context associated with them.
Educational resources developed as a component of the “Voices of the Past Speak to the Future” project include:
The Stories They Could Tell

First-person stories of individuals who served in the American Army in three distinct time periods – Civil War/Frontier Wars, World War II and the Frontier Wars/Spanish-American War/Philippine Insurrection. Interactive CD-ROM.
Defending the Long Road to Freedom.

Focuses on the African American community’s 180-year long experience with the American military. The centerpiece of this story is the fifty-year career of Brigadier General Benjamin O. Davis, Sr., the first African American general officer in the U.S. Army. Interactive CD-ROM
Army Nurses of World War One: Service Beyond Expectations

More than 21,000 women enlisted in the US Army in WWI to serve as uniformed nurses. More than 10,000 deployed to overseas location. This story, unknown to most, is highlighted through the writings of two of these brave nurses, Elizabeth Lewis and Emma Elizabeth Weaver. The Foundation developed a 53 minute DVD and a companion book to tell this story.
