Romance Amid the Ruins: The Confederate Letters of General Gabriel Wharton and Nannie Radford” with William C. Davis
Recently the 1863-1865 correspondence between Confederate Brigadier General Gabriel Wharton and his wife Nannie Radford were found. They wrote to each other every day and all 524 of their letters have survived. They discussed everything–politics, military strategy, generals good and bad, home life in Southwest Virginia, their wavering devotion to the CSA, honor, slavery and freedom, and more. Davis has edited the letters, which appeared in print this past July.
