Description

These volumes are among the classic histories of the Weimar Republic period. The author, Erich Eyck, trained as a lawyer, gained a doctorate in history, and studied under Dr. Hugo Preuss, ‘The Father of the Weimar Constitution’. He worked in Berlin from 1906 to 1937 as a lawyer, journalist, and Democratic Party representative in the Berlin City Council, so he witnessed the events he writes about and knew many of the main players. Prevented from continuing to work in Germany by Hitler’s regime, he emigrated to Britain where he lived for the rest of his life, taking British citizenship. Here he occupied himself in studying and writing history. His narrative is detailed but easy to read and extremely interesting. Its clarity and immediacy will continue to ensure its relevance.
