Description
This memorial volume tells of the life of Anson Lloyd Silvester who was born in 1888 , it is edited by his father, the Reverend James Silvester and includes extracts from his letters and journals . He was educated at Oxford ( Jesus College) , enjoyed sports , cycling , sailing and was a member of the O.T.C
When war broke out he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Royal Sussex Regiment and on September 27th 1914 was sent to France with a draft of men to join the second battalion of his regiment who were then facing the Germans on the Aisne front . He survived the first battle of Ypres in October and November but was killed in a counterattack on New Year’s Eve .
The book contains 137 pages , including an index of names , a frontispiece and 5 plates .
