Description
Reading Tansil is to see what historical writing once was and probably should be still. This book is a clear, well documented recounting of the words and actions of the people and times prior to the U.S. entry into WWI. Comparing this history to contemporary work makes many of the newer works seem like historical novels in which narrative and creative writing are more important than facts. The book is not complementary of the U.S. in its attempt to portray itself as a neutral country until it entered the war in 1917. For economic and political reasons, the U.S. was a silent partner to the Entente from as early as late 1914. Sidney Fay’s The Origins of the World War, Tansil’s America Goes to War are the two foundational books for WWI revisionists history. One should read both books.
